Learning About Environment (Students' Text and Teachers' Manual).
Harrington, Robert F.; Passmore, Richard C.
The first of a sequential series of ecology units for students in grades six, seven, and eight is presented in this set of instructional materials: a student text and teachers' manual. The principal aim of each unit is to offer a teachable block of material that will provide students with an understanding of their environment and of their own role in it. By creating ecological awareness, it is hoped that a foundation will be laid for good environmental citizenship. Simplified explanations and close-to-home examples furnish insights into man's place in nature, the complexity of interactions within natural systems, the vulnerability of individual strands of delicate webs, the limits of the earth, and the need to husband its resources intelligently. The student text, liberally illustrated with photographs and pen and ink sketches, includes descriptive subject information, vocabulary words, and thought and discussion questions for each of the ten chapters. The accompanying teachers' manual supplies additional background, examples, suggestions, and references arranged in a chapter-by-chapter sequence following the student text format. (BL)
