Speech Programs at Coeducational Community-Junior Colleges.

Data for this doctoral dissertation on speech education in public junior colleges were obtained from questionnaires received from 109 randomly selected colleges. Information gathered concerns the nature of the speech program--courses taught and teaching methods, administrative structure, course content, staffing, extracurricular programs, equipment, community services, testing methods, program evaluation, national organization membership, recent program changes, influence of 4-year institutions, administrative, faculty and student attitudes about the speech program, research, scholarship funds, and creative teaching methods. Recommendations concerned teaching methods, course offerings, textbook selection, grading, speech as a requirement, student involvement, teaching personnel, teaching load, class size, research and publication, special programs, scholarships and grants-in-aid, community service, extracurricular activities, and national organizations.
