Television News; Anatomy and Process.
Green, Maury
Primarily for the journalist, this book explores three aspects of television news--its techniques, its journalistic concepts, and its effects on society--in developing its argument that the relationship of television news technique to concept is extremely intimate and widely misunderstood, and that the effects of television news on society are so profound that they should be of concern to all men. The first part of the book provides an introduction to television news, with information on its history, opportunities and requirements, news sources and values, and story development. A second part concentrates on television news writing styles and uses of film, while the third part considers the television reporter as a film reporter, a video reporter, and an investigative reporter. The fourth part covers aspects of television news production, such as the role of assignment editor, producers, panel shows, news specials, and the duties of news directors. The final part discusses television news and American society. Appended are a list of 1968 job openings, the Television Code of the National Association of Broadcasters, Canon 35 of the American Bar Association's Canons of Judicial Ethics, suggested additional reading, and a glossary.
