Language and Thinking in Human Development.
Boyle, D. G.
The past 20 years have seen a resurgence of interest on the part of psychologists in what used to be called "the higher mental processes," with the difference that while the earlier workers were concerned with the power of reasoning, recent interest has centered upon the use of language. The scope of the material that has appeared is frequently confusing and it is difficult to integrate within an accommodating framework. In Parts One (Language and Imagery) and Two (Language and Thinking) of this book attempts to develop a suitable framework. In Part Three (Philosophical Perspective), the philosophical background to the current controversies is sketched. An 11-page bibliography is provided, as well as a subject index and a name index of all authors cited. (Author/JF)
