This document presents a proposal for the establishment of a University Senate for the Ohio State University. The University Senate, subject to the authority of the Board of Trustees, shall have the power: (a) under delegation by the University Faculty to establish the educational and academic policies of the University, to recommend the establishment, abolition, and alteration of educational units and programs of study, to recommend to the Board of Trustees candidates for honorary degrees, and to recommend candidates for degrees and certificates; and (b) to consider, to make recommendations concerning, and to act upon matters relating to the rights, responsibilities, and concerns of students, faculty, administrators, and staff. Discussed are membership in the Senate, term of office, representation and methods of selection, alternate members, procedures for reconsideration, relationship to other bodies, the presiding officer, committees of the Senate, and by-laws of the Senate.
