A Study of Factors Related to Achievement in General College Biology in the Junior College.
Williams, Theodore Roosevelt
Point biserial correlation coefficients were calculated between semester biology grades in a junior college course and the following dichotomies: science or non-science majors; freshmen or non-freshmen; process-oriented or content-oriented high school biology background; process or content view of college biology; full- or part-time students; and above-group mean or below-group mean on ACT Natural Science scores. Significant relationships (p less than 0.01) were found for all measures except full- or part-time studies. When the score on the Advanced Placement Biology Examination was used as the criterion variable for a similar analysis, only the ACT above- or below-group mean dichotomy produced a significant correlation.
