Goodby to Yesterday: Talent Development in a Changing Era.
The setting for this school-community study is Effingham, Illinois. Chosen as a prototype of rural America, Effingham is emerging as a rapidly-growing center of economic, political, and social activity. Through structured interviews and personal interactions, the evaluator has obtained information to describe the community in terms of its historical background, current issues, and future plans. The role of educational institutions in fashioning an improved educational and social environment is discussed. This school-community study will continue along the lines of testing the viability of a belief that local school districts, given access to appropriate human and material resources, can productively engage in community development efforts.
