This guide presents the primary approaches, tools, and techniques utilized by the New Careers Training Laboratory (NCTL) staff to provide skills in training and to conduct agency task analyses. Much of the technical information has been taken from an earlier NCTL publication by Tita Beal, "A New Careers Guide for Career Development Officers" which was developed primarily for Community Action Agency (CAA) personnel. For the purposes of this guide"task analysis" is defined as a systematic way of finding out what functions and tasks are included in a given job or position. The major subjects covered are: Terminology; Task Analysis; Utilizing Paraprofessional Services; Designing Agency Training Programs; Guidelines for Developing In-Service Programs; On-The-Job Training; Designing Career Ladders; Developing Job Descriptions; and Overview of Education Components. The appendices provide various samples of task analysis, job descriptions, in-service training designs, and career ladder designs. (Author/LS)
