Abstracts of the presentations made at two international symposia on "Man-Made Lakes, Their Problems and Environmental Effects" and "Planned Utilization of the Lowland Tropical Forests" constitute most of this issue of the newsletter. In addition, there are reports of a regional training course on draining and land reclamation in Iraq, the first session of the Coordinating Council of the "Man and the Biosphere" program of UNESCO and of the Advisory Committee on Natural Resource Research. The meeting reports describe progress made in each field, list suggested research projects, often of an interdisciplinary nature, and consider the future role of each committee. There is also an article describing the work of the International Geological Correlation Program, in both geological research and earth science education. Short notes on forth-coming meetings, training courses, new periodicals, and annotated announcements of publications received by the editors conclude the issue. (AL)
