Serving as a useful reference tool for those interested in college film courses and in the audience for film scholarship, this guide lists 427 colleges and universities offering courses in film. It contains extensive information on the 96 schools where students can major in film. The institutions are listed alphabetically under states, and information for each entry is provided which includes number of stdents enrolled; degrees offered; distinctive programs, opportunities, scholarships, and assistantships available; names and positions of film faculty members; and a summary paragraph describing the philosophy, aims, priorities, and intent of the curriculum. Also given for each school is a listing of all film courses and seminars with the course title, number of credits offered, average enrollment, number of times it is offered each year, and whether or not it is a graduate or undergraduate course. Rankings in order of importance to the department of different aspects of the subject of film are also provided for each school, and separate listings of schools offering teacher training courses in film study and of schools by degrees offered conclude the guide.
