A Speech Handbook for Teachers.
Streeter, Donald C.
This handbook, designed for college classes of prospective elementary and secondary school teachers, considers three particular speech activities: presenting a short talk, reading aloud, and speaking in conference and discussion groups. For each of these three activities, there are theory, assignments, and specifically related evaluation blanks. The assignments are located so that they accompany the theory. The number of assignments is 14, that being the approximate maximum number the class can complete during a school term. There are different categories for evaluation of each of the rating blanks. The six chapters of the book are: A Diagnosis of Speech Needs and Abilities; Basic Skills in Speaking; Basic Skills in Reading Aloud; Skills in Discussion and Conference; Complementary Skills of Speech Making; and Complementary Skills of Reading Aloud. The three appendices are designed for both the college instructor and for his students; these are: A. Suggestions for Class Procedure; B. Speaker's Notes; and C. Evaluation and Grading. (Author/DB)
