Educational Psychology: A Self-Directed Course of Study.

This program provides the basic structure of a course of study in educational psychology and represents a way of thinking about teaching and learning as well as a set of topics, objectives, activities, and references. The program can be used as a course guide in a university or for independent study. Chapter one contains a general overview of the course. Chapter two identifies the objectives, introduces the topic, and describes how the unit guides should be used. Chapter three describes the formulation and implementation of learning activities. Chapter four deals with evaluation and grades and includes a bibliography and list of course projects and activities. Twenty-one unit guides are included each listing minimum objectives and reading lists on three levels. The topics are 1) nature and scope of educational psychology; 2) educational goals; 3) educational objectives and instructional planning; 4) motivation; 5) intelligence; 6) learning theories; 7) conditions of learning; 8) instructional technology; 9) conceptual learning; 10) problem solving, reasoning, and discovery learning; 11) creative thinking; 12) discipline and classroom management; 13) teacher effectiveness; 14) classroom interaction and social psychology; 15) attitudes and values; 16) individual differences; 17) individualizing instruction; 18) personality, emotions, and affective factors; 19) physical growth and development; 20) motor skills and skill learning; and 21) measurement and evaluation.
