Environmental Improvement (Air, Water, and Soil).
Marquis, Ralph W., Ed.
As a community service and continuing adult education program, the Graduate School of the U. S. Department of Agriculture sponsors a series of public lectures. This book contains the texts and reactions to one of the lecture series entitled "Environmental Improvement." Given in May, 1966, the series presented "Man and His Environment - Scope, Impact, and Nature" by Rene Jules Dubos, "Environmental Improvement - Institutional and Governmental Aspects" by Edmund S. Muskie, "Control of Environment - Economic and Technological Prospects" by John T. Middleton, and "The Future of Environmental Improvement" by S. Dillon Ripley. With man as the key figure, the lectures consider what man is doing to change his environment, what his changed environment is doing to man, what man can and must do to reduce the harmful effects of his present activities, and what man must do to correct the harmful situation created by his past activities. Following each of the lectures are reactions and comments by two recognized authorities in the field. (BL)
