Guidelines for Evaluation: The School Principalship -- Seven Areas of Competence.

This report identifies seven areas of professional competence that the successful principal of the future must assume. They are (1) teacher and director of the educational program, (2) coordinator of guidance and special education services, (3) member of the district and school staff, (4) link between community and the school, (5) administrator of personnel, (6) member of the profession of educational administration, and (7) director of support management. For each area, specific suggestions are provided for developing a criterion, instruments for use in data collection and evaluation, and procedures for implementing a program of self-evaluation preliminary to reorientation and retraining.
