The Third Part of Your Life. A Systems Approach to Retirement.
Wiesman, Walt
An approach to retirement planning is discussed. It is suggested that the retiree should explore a variety of activities, from volunteer work to full-time employment. Other suggestions are that the retiree should stay in good physical condition and that prior to retirement, a sound financial program should be worked out. Retirement activities that should be considered are free-lancing, opportunities in the field of education (teacher enrichment seminars, student seminars, student orientation, volunteers for first aide clinics and for other health services projects, resource personnel and instructors for vocational education, assist in studies of industry requirements, substitute teachers, part-time instructors, teacher aides, maintenance personnel, etc.). Some universities offer evening and weekend programs through which the potential retiree can acquire the necessary credits or degrees needed to teach full-time. City and country organizations could utilize the retirees on boards, commissions, and advisory groups, and professional associations could utilize the retirees in conducting enrichment programs for teachers and students. Retirees can contribute through volunteer work in many projects. An employer can aid in retirement planning in many ways. National programs are needed, and the community should have retirement planning courses as part of their adult education program. (DB)
