Requirements for Outdoor Recreation (Sports and Games).
Smythe, Patrick E.
To serve communities interested in starting recreation programs, various factors influencing the use of recreational facilities (such as income, education, age, and occupation) are examined; 4 community prerequisites for running a successful recreation program (a legally consituted, local managing authority; indoor and outdoor facilities; professional paid leadership; and sufficient money to run a program) are discussed; standards for various types of recreational facilities (such as radius of area to be served by a children's playlot and acres needed per 1000 population) are presented; and requirements for multiple recreation areas (children's playgrounds, neighborhood parks, and youth and adult playfields) are analyzed in terms of age group to be served, size of area, location, facilities, apparatus, and games and sports to be supported.
