Computer Applications to ERIC Clearinghouse Documents Collections: A User and Installation Handbook.
Berkebile, Lonnie A.
The purpose of this handbook is to assist those who wish to utilize the computer in the production of magnetic tape records and abstract journals. Through use of the program described, it is possible to: (1) create a magnetic tape file of document resumes for use in retrieving information or generating bibliographies, and (2) generate camera-ready copy for production of an abstract journal which includes resumes and indexes. QUERY, a universal information retrieval program, may be utilized to search the magnetic tape file created by these programs. Developed by the ERIC Clearinghouse on Vocational and Technical Education and tested on its publications, the programs in the packages are written in PL/I for use on IBM 360 or other computers with a PL/I compiler. Also, a general description of the production procedures is given, followed by appendixes which provide keypunching procedures, job control language, control data cards, error messages, program listings, flow charts, and page samples. Details on development of the system are available as VT 014 134 in this issue. (Author/JS)
