Short-Term Manpower Projection Methods for Selected Services Industries in the Ventura County Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Lawson, William Harold
This study evaluated short-term manpower projection methods for the personal services and medical and other health services industries. An employer benchmark survey was used to estimate actual employment of cosmetologists, barbers, registered nurses, and licensed vocational nurses. Out of seven projection methods which were applied to the data, four were successful: (1) a single economic indicator, (2) multiple linear regression, (3) ratio analysis, and (4) graphical extrapolation. A 5-year base period worked better than three or seven. Procedures for using short-term projection methods were developed which could provide projections adequate for educational planning and instruction in a suburban Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area experiencing rapid growth.
