Teaching Physics To-day, Some Important Topics.
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Paris (France).
This volume, the 10th in the "New Thinking in School Science" series published by the Directorate for Scientific Affairs of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, is the outcome of international cooperative work by the Organization to inform teachers on current development and modern views in the teaching of secondary school physics. It comprises ten chapters, framed to provide guidance to teachers and to encourage them to reconsider their teaching along the lines of an up-to-date treatment of the subject. This guide is not, even in parts, a textbook for the teaching of physics in class. The first part of the Guide consists of five chapters outlining topics of general importance, including reference to experience gained in applying new approaches. The second part presents topics selected from fields of particular relevance in the present state of debate. An attempt was made to treat these topics in a wider context than is generally the case in traditional teaching, and to present some which are not yet fully introduced in school. (Author/TS)
