New Thinking in School Chemistry.
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Paris (France).
This report contains the text of addresses given at a seminar on the status and development of the teaching of secondary school chemistry held in 1960 by the Organization for European Economic Development (now the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development). The speakers considered advances in theoretical chemistry since 1900, the importance of structure in introductory chemistry teaching, advances in chemical techniques, the requirements of industry and the universities, and descriptions of teaching techniques (models, audiovisual aids, and laboratory and text-based programs) being used by some participants. Summaries of the discussion following each of the papers, suggested outlines for new courses of study prepared by three separate working groups, and a list of conference participants are included.
