Neurath, Otto, Ed.; And Others
The monographs published from 1938 through 1970 under the general title of the International Encyclopedia of Unified Science are now published in two volumes (see also SE 012 544). The monographs attempt to discover the basic, unifying principles of science as a whole to facilitate the dovetailing of the special sciences, so that advances in one would bring about advances in the others. The monographs included in this volume, and the philosophers who wrote them, are listed below. Encyclopedia and Unified Science (part 1, Unified Science as Encyclopedic Integration (Neurath); part 2, Analysis and Synthesis in Science (Bohr); part 3, Unity of Science as a Social Problem (Dewey); part 4, On the Importance of Logical Form (Russell); part 5, Logical Foundations of the Unity of Science (Carnap); and part 6, Scientific Empiricism (Morris)). This volume also contains the following papers: Foundations of the Theory of Signs (Morris); Foundations of Logic and Mathematics (Carnap); Linguistic Aspects of Science (Bloomfield); Procedures of Empirical Science (Lenzen); Principles of the Theory of Probability (Nagel); Foundations of Physics (Frank); Cosmology (Finlay-Freundlich); Foundations of Biology (Mainx); and The Conceptual Framework of Psychology (Brunswik).
