Provisions for Individual Differences in Seventh Grade Mathematics Based on Grouping and Behavioral Objectives: An Exploratory Study.
Bierden, James Edward
Research reported dealt with teaching two seventh-grade classes using detailed behavioral objectives related to the topics and grouping techniques to provide for individualized instruction. The objectives were written at three levels--Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced--for each topic. The management procedure for each topic included initial class instruction designed to meet the intermediate-level objectives, testing the students on these objectives, assigning each student to a basic, intermediate, or advanced group according to his test score, and a second test on these unachieved objectives. The preparation of objectives and materials was time-consuming but it guided the selection of appropriate conditions of learning, facilitated teacher-student interaction, and provided a basis for assessing and differentiating student achievement.
