STATSIM: Exercises in Statistics.

A computer-based learning simulation was developed at Florida State University which allows for high interactive responding via a time-sharing terminal for the purpose of demonstrating descriptive and inferential statistics. The statistical simulation (STATSIM) is comprised of four modules--chi square, t, z, and F distribution--and elucidates the concepts of Type I and Type 2 errors and the sequential nature of hypothesis testing. STATSIM permits a student to explore the meaning of various statistical concepts by way of sample problems and exercises which may be worked as often as desired. The student is guided through the hypothesis testing procedure by actually inspecting the data and successively making appropriate inferential decisions as further hypothesis testing information is given him. The final inference may be evaluated by STATSIM to provide the student with feedback on the correctness of his inference. (Author/SH)
