Hire Now, Train Later Program Emphasizing Orientation, Coaching and Employer Involvement. Final Report.
The study is a second year-end report (Phase I) of the JOBS NOW project, based in Chicago, which operates on the 'hire now, train later' concept. The project consisted of four components: brief job orientation (two weeks) for disadvantaged youth; business, industry, labor, and agencies working together to employ the disadvantaged; the provision of support during a time of transition from an institutionalized setting to on-site in-company training; encouraging employers to develop on-site training, pre-site training, orientation, and upgrading programs that include general basic education as well as occupational skill training. The project's major thrust in the second year was to assist business and industry in assuming a primary role in dealing with the disadvantaged. (Author)
