Conference Leadership.
Civil Service Commission, Washington, DC.
This manual has been developed to serve two primary purposes: as a text in the original training of company personnel in conference leadership and a guide for the use of trained conference leaders. The conference leader is responsible for creating a situation which makes for complete freedom of discussion. Using the conference, the leader aims to: assemble, select and evaluate facts, get group decisions, and develop and execute plans. He must familiarize himself with the problems, equipment, methods, and procedures confronting conference groups daily. The basic element in preparation for conference leadership is the discussion plan, which serves as a guide for the leader in directing the conference. Conferees should feel each meeting is an accomplishment. Frequent summaries at important points in the conference keep the group thinking and help fix ideas, principles, and conclusions. Five musts for a conference leader are: a good beginning, conferee participation, good questions, progressive discussion and control over the meeting. (CK)
