Included are instructional materials designed for use with disadvantaged students who have a limited reading ability and poor command of English. The guide is the second volume of a two volume, one year program in earth science, and contains these five units and activities: Rock Cycle, 12 activities; Minerals and Crystals, 6 activities; Weathering and Erosion, 4 activities; Earth and Space, 16 activities; and Oceanography, 8 activities. A formal textbook is not used in this program, and the learning process relies on class discussion supported by audiovisual materials and small group laboratory activities. Each lesson has a suggested format for teachers to follow in directing activities, with suggested teacher comments. Following each teacher section is the printed material for student use, which generally includes a list of required equipment for small group activities, introduction and procedures, and fill-in questions relating to the completed activity.
