An Experiment in the Evaluation and Revision of Text Materials.
Allendoerfer, Carl B.
Behavioral objectives and related test items were used as a means of evaluating and revising text materials for an undergraduate mathematics course. The textbook under consideration was "Principles of Arithmetic and Geometry," designed to be used on the college level to prepare prospective elementary school teachers in mathematics. The purpose of the experiment was to evaluate the preliminary edition of this book, and to determine the extent to which the use of behavioral objectives was helpful in finding deficiencies in it and in suggesting ways in which they could be remedied in a revised version. It is concluded that this method of evaluation and revision has substantial merit and it is recommended to other authors of undergraduate mathematics textbooks. The behavioral objectives and test items are included. (CK)
