Environments, Teacher's Guide.
California Univ., Berkeley. Science Curriculum Improvement Study.
The Science Curriculum Improvement Study has developed this teacher's guide to Environments, the fourth part of a six unit life science curriculum sequence. The six basic units, emphasizing organism-environment interactions, are organisms, life cycles, populations, environments, communities, and ecosystems, and make use of scientific and process-oriented concepts appropriate to the study of life. Environments deals with physical conditions that shape an organism's environment and stresses the concepts of environment, environmental factors, range, and optimum range. Topics of the five-part unit are entitled: An Organism's Environment; The Changes Outside; Animal Responses to Environmental Factors; Plant Responses to Environmental Factors; and The Total Environment. Suggestions are presented for the teacher to use an exploration-invention-discovery approach to learning. Activities and experiments lead to clarification of the concepts and provide experience in measurement skills and critical thinking by the students. (BL)
