Behavioral Objectives in Curriculum Development; Selected Readings and Bibliography.

The readings in this book are organized into eight sections. The first section is a compilation of practical materials which reinforce and elaborate on a few basic ideas about behavioral objectives. Some common ways of analyzing and classifying objectives are described. The adaptability of the behavioral approach to the teaching of values and influencing affective behavior in general is explored. Descriptions of the use of behavioral objectives in curricular strategies include discussions of independent study, individualized instruction, and instruction for the gifted child. Some specific examples are presented of the use of behavioral objectives in various subject matter areas, such as art, music, English, science, and job training. One section contains essays which examine the role of behavioral objectives in that area of educational technology which encompasses systems development, computer-assisted instruction, and learning packages. The relationship of objectives and curriculum evaluation and the function of goal specification in the evaluation procedure are considered. The concluding section deals with the historical and theoretical background of the behavioral approach, as well as with some of its problem areas. At the end of each section, a bibliography of additional media is provided. (Author/JY)
