The overview is composed of: 1) the nature of sociological research; 2) some of the fields where theoretical explorations are made; 3) the strengths and weaknesses of the sub-fields of sociology; 4) the historical development of the discipline; 5) the disciplines institutional resources in terms of manpower and funding. A concluding chapter makes some recommendations. (CWB)
