Selected Factors and Achievement in an Audio-Tutorial Introductory College Biology Course.

There was no significant difference in biology achievement between 38 matched pairs of college biology students studying under an audio-tutorial (AT) or a lecture/laboratory approach. Although males outperformed females in both groups, there was a non-significant trend among the females to increased performance in the AT setting. None of the student variables examined (size of graduating high school class, time spent in the AT laboratory, listening comprehension scores, ACT mathematics, natural sciences, and comprehensive scores, and the factors measured by the California Psychological Inventory) were useful predictors of success in AT biology.
