Biological Sciences Curriculum Study Newsletter Number 42, The Impact of BSCS Biology on College Curricula.
Clark, George M.
Two articles describe the impact of BSCS biology on college biology curricula, one a general review and the other a specific example. BSCS has affected college biology teaching to an extent ranging from a decision not to change the existing courses to extensive curricula revisions exemplified by the West Virginia University. Other articles describe a laboratory test used with the Israeli adaptation of the BSCS materials and summarize the results of a study of college students entering their first biology class. The performance on a BSCS comprehensive final examination was related to high school background. The results indicate that inquiry questions were answered equally well by students with or without high school biology; among those who had a biology course in high school, BSCS students performed better on inquiry and recall questions.
