Contained in this report is an evaluation of the ESEA Title I Environmental-Ecological Education Program for educationally disadvantaged students operated by the Brookville Area School District, Pennsylvania. The program is a modification of a previously operated ESEA Title III Rural Youth Enrichment Program. Conducted during the summer of 1970, 300 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students participated in a program of science instruction, recreation, arts and crafts. Field trips, laboratory examinations, and small group study utilized a multi-sensory approach to learning through participation. Tools developed for data collection consist of a pre- and post Self-Appraisal Instrument, Science Achievement checklist, Arts and Crafts Achievement checklist, and a Student Opinion Survey, all included in the Appendix. Data from these tests and checklists is reported in table form. The conclusion indicates the major objective was achieved, that is, to motivate and encourage the disadvantaged student toward a more fulfilling and rewarding educational experience through activities which are currently not provided to any extent within the present school curriculum and which broaden his overall understanding of natural resources, their uses, misuses, and conservation practices. The final appendix contains a descriptive and pictorial brochure of the program for general consumption. This work was prepared under an ESEA Title I contract.
