Evolving Educational Goals for California Schools: Four Case Studies.
Filep, Robert
This report documents the efforts of four school districts to bring their communities into the decisionmaking process at the levels of basic educational philosophy and immediate local needs and goals. The document (1) identifies the procedures each district used to engage and involve the community in the decisionmaking process, (2) charts the approaches used by all four districts in developing the goals, (3) identifies similarities and differences in the approaches used in goal development, (4) provides a reference for school districts contemplating the development of statements of philosophy and goals efforts designed to involve their communities, and (5) outlines recommendations for developing districtwide involvement in such a philosophy and goals effort based on the experiences of the four districts. (Charts on pages 22, 29, 37, 43, and 44 may reproduce poorly.) (Author)
