Evaluation Institute on Interethnic Aspects of Public School Education in West Virginia. Final Report.

This evaluation of the Institute on Interethnic Aspects of Public School Education in West Virginia consisted of two district procedures. The first was intended to evaluate the effectiveness of the program in terms of the change occurring in the participants as perceived by the participants themselves. This was done by a pre- and post-program questionnaire. The second evaluation technique was intended to measure the success of the Institute in terms of the action produced at the back-home level. This was done by asking the participants to plan and reduce to writing action programs for their local school systems prior to leaving the program. The participants were then called back to evaluate the progress of the action plans. The report concludes that the greatest change occurred in knowledge of procedures, while less change in racial attitudes occurred. However, favorable attitudes towards desegregated education increased. As for the action-plan evaluation, exactly how many actually made headway is not noted.
