Western Regional Conference on Testing Problems: Proceedings 1970.
Educational Testing Service, Berkeley, CA.; Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ.
The nineteenth annual Western Regional Conference on Testing Problems focused on the evaluation of special educational strategies, particularly as they relate to problems of testing and measurement. "Better District Achievement Testing: Its Role" provides suggestions for the improvement of public school district testing programs. Innovations which would allow the district to acquire the best possible survey tests achievement information on its students are considered for the areas of test administration, selection, construction, and interpretation. The necessity for the educational establishment to assume the responsibility of training individuals in skills other than academic which are relevant to business occupations and the concomitant problem of measuring these abilities are considered in "Relevance of Education to Organizational Requirements." Literature relevant to a basic problem of testing is reviewed in "Test Bias, An Old Problem Revisited." The need for culture-fair tests and even for consideration of test bias is questioned. "An Evaluative Interpretation of the Nova Secondary School" describes first the goals, program and development of this experimental educational complex and, second, the longitudinal study evaluating it. Finally, "Evaluating Sesame Street" presents general prefatory information on an assessment of this educational television program, including its effectiveness and the effects of related variables.
