Research Studies Published in Science Education During 1953 Through 1957.
Phelan, Elizabeth Ann
Reviewed were 137 studies in science education published from 1953 through 1857 that met the U.S. Office of Education Criteria of Research. Digests of 23 of the studies, selected by a panel of eminent science educators, are included and remaining studies annotated. The alphabetically arranged citations include statements of the purposes, the procedure, and the results of each study. A subject index is included. Few studies were concerned with elementary school science; senior high school and college levels predominated. General science, biology, chemistry, and physics were about equally represented at the high school level, with earth science being treated about one-third as often as any other subject area. At the college level, physical science, chemistry, general science, and biology were about equally treated; there was a strong emphasis of college level research on science in general education programs.
