The Tirunelveli Tamil Dialect. Linguistic Survey of Tamilnadu, Annamalai University, Department of Linguistics.
This study of the Tirunelveli Tamil dialect is part of the outcome of the Linguistic Survey of Tamilnadu project undertaken by the Centre of Advanced Study in Linguistics, Annamali University. The purpose underlying the study is to help the preparation of linguistic geography first for South Tamilnadu and then for the whole of Tamilnadu. The study describes only the phonemic and morphemic structures of the dialect as the linguistic theory underlying this analysis is not at present in a position to adequately describe the syntactic structures of natural languages. Proper names, place-names, and loanwords which have native equivalents and/or kept their identity are not included. A Tamil/English Vocabulary listing and a short bibliography conclude this work.
