The Scientific Institutions of Latin America.
Hilton, Ronald
This book is a comprehensive survey of the scientific institutions and science information facilities of Latin America and the Caribbean. The organization of the book is by countries and by institutions within each country. The section on each country begins with a description of the country and its scientific organizations. A series of descriptions of scientific institutions arranged by localities follows. Both public and private institutions which have scientific activities in the fields of the exact sciences, natural sciences, engineering, astronomy, geology, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, agronomy, and veterinary medicine are described. For each institution, there is an account of the library facilities. One chapter of the book describes the international, U.S., and European organizations promoting the development of science and science information facilities in Latin America. Two chapters are devoted to a discussion of the problems of science and science information in the continent. A number of maps are provided to help the reader locate the places mentioned in the book.
