The Development of a Classroom Observation Instrument Relevant to the Earth Science Curriculum Project.
Smith, John Preston
Behaviors described by the instrument were grouped into categories related to developing text material, pre-lab, laboratory, and post-lab discussion. Judges' ratings were used to select behaviors which could be designated as (1) consistent with ESCP, (2) neutral, or (3) inconsistent with ESCP. Classroom observations based on the instrument were made of six ninth grade ESCP teachers in three junior high schools by three teams of two observers each. The results were analyzed for implications in two areas: descriptions of teachers relative to ESCP, and points of departure for further research. (EB)
