Migrant Research Project. Annual Report-1969.
Manpower Evaluation and Development Inst., Washington, DC.
The purposes of this project, funded by the Office of Economic Opportunity, were (1) to provide emergency food and medical services funds to needy migrants, (2) to accumulate and document facts which establish the existence of practices and attitudes that exclude migrants from adequate participation in Federal food and relevant programs, and (3) to provide technical assistance to migrant groups and to governmental agencies in an effort to improve the provision of needed service to migrants. Personal interviews, questionnaires, and special projects such as conferences were used to collect the data for this project. The project report presents discussions of problems such as proper medical service, nutrition, and housing for the migrant worker. Suggestions and recommendations are included for solving these problems. The total number of migrants served by the project was 3,078 families in 18 states from December of 1968 through September of 1969.
