Standards for Secondary Schools.
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Atlanta, GA. Commission on Secondary Schools.
This bulletin, a companion piece to that described in TM 000 112, describes the role of the Commission on Secondary Schools in the development of standards and the formulation of accreditation procedures aimed at improving the schools of the South. It delineates the broad principles and standards required for accreditation and indicates the evaluation approach required of the school for securing membership in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Nine basic principles are set forth, accompanied by a variety of standards for their implementation. The principles cover such matters as democratization of administrative matters, the foundation of the school's program in the needs and aspirations of those it serves, analysis and selective use of community resource, adequate program organization and personnel for all aspects of the school system, suitable environment, proper physical facilities, satisfactory budgetary and funding procedures, and experimental programs aimed at general improvement.
