The papers presented in this volume represent an iterim report on the work of 50 investigators at the Research Group on Technology, Business, and the City--a part of the Harvard University program on Technology and Society. The work of the group is to investigate and structure research into the role of the business-like organization in the technology of social change. The papers deal with the existing institutions and the urban context in which they function. They examine the institutions of the ghetto, particularly the black ghetto. In conclusion, they make tentative suggestions for the relief of existing social problems in the city. A biographical sketch of the principal contributors is provided. (JY)
