How the Public Views Nonpublic Schools.
This report summarizes findings of a nationwide survey designed to assess public opinion regarding nonpublic school education. In February 1969, interviews with 1,505 adults were conducted by Gallup International in a variety of communities throughout the nation. Responses revealed the public's level of information concerning nonpublic schools; its opinions regarding the quality, cost, and value of private school education; and its reasons for preferring either public or private education. Percentage breakdowns are given for responses by the entire sample and by a subsample of respondents from communities where private, parochial, and public schools are all present (approximately one-third of the nation).
