An Analysis of the Effectiveness of a College Preparatory Program for the Visually Impaired.
Smith, Clyde Raymond
A 9-week summer college preparatory program for the visually impaired provided counseling and training in academics, mobility, and skill and vocational areas. To determine its effectiveness, tests were administered to its 27 participants and to 18 controls. Results indicated that self concept was a significant variable in discriminating between the two groups and in predicting students likely to persist through the freshman year. The semantic differential techniques also rendered data significant both as a discriminator and a predictor. Anxiety was found not to be significant; attrition was greatest among the 18 controls.
