Man and His World; A Structured Reader.
Kurilecz, Margaret
This reader for high intermediate or advanced students of English as a second language may be used on the secondary level for students from 14 to 18 years of age who have had about five years of instruction in daily classes, or on the adult level for students who have had two years of work. With a three-way emphasis on reading, speaking, and writing, special attention is given to word study, related words, and their opposites, to increase vocabulary and develop reading comprehension. The exercises on structure patterns are intended to promote facility in writing and encourage stylistic variation. Content of the material deals with several aspects of man's--geographic, economic, and political. Included also are biographies of several well-known figures. Topics were selected to interest students from different cultures and to stimulate classroom discussion. (AMM)
