Let's Talk; A Book of Conversations.
Finocchiaro, Mary
This book of short conversational dialogues is intended for students of English as a second language or as a second dialect, of any native language background and at any level of instruction. Suggestions for grading and adapting the materials to suit students' needs, as well as instructions on drill techniques, are provided in a prefatory section for the teacher. The dialogues are of three types: (1) brief conversational exchanges, generally composed of two or three single utterances, and graded for difficulty; (2) sustained, in which the speakers make more than one utterance, either in the opening exchange or in the response; and (3) spiral, in which a series of brief dialogues deal with only one theme, but grow progressively more complex. Cultural content includes such everyday topics as greetings and introductions, time, dates, weather and seasons, the family, home, school and job, people and places in the immediate and the wider community. A special section of dialogues for younger learners is included. A reference guide and index concludes the volume. (AMM)
