Journal Literature Resources of Institutions of Higher Learning with Reading Programs.
Laffey, James L.
This is the report of a survey conducted to determine what journal literature resources were available in 178 institutions of higher learning offering graduate training programs in reading. A survey questionnaire was developed which listed 47 journals, tabbed in an earlier study as highly productive reading research journals. The questionnaires were sent to the heads of the reading programs to be completed with the aid of the institution's librarian. The ensuing data were tabulated first across all 47 journals and second within six categories of journals to be then analyzed for the availability of the "core" journals, journals which have published a high number of reading research reports during a given period. It was concluded that the majority of the 178 schools have adequate journal literature resources but that a number of the same schools do not have some of the more recently published journals available. Several implications of the study are offered. References and a list of journals studied are included. (NH)
