The purposes of this book, designed as a textbook for students, are to (1) present the fundamental concepts governing the field of recreational service, (2) to identify the chief components and concerns of the field, and (3) to research what history has provided for a contemporary comprehension of how ideas, philosophy, terminology, and practices have developed. The book is divided into 2 parts, principles and practices of recreational service. Individual topics included under part 1 are leisure, recreation, legality, social movement, public recreational service, conservation, leadership, and professionalism. Topics discussed in part 2 are research, administration, coordination, supervision, programming, planning, education, and evaluation.
