This basic audiolingual course in standard Swahili appears in six volumes, Lesson Units 1-56. Units consist of a "blueprint" prefatory page outlining the phonological, morphological, and syntactic structures and new vocabulary to be presented; perception drills; Swahili dialog with cartoon guides and English translation; pattern and recombination drills; situational application; generalization of the sound features and language structures practiced; and cultural notes. Provision is made for oral and written assignments. The material is intended for classroom use in the Defense Language Institute's intensive program, and is designed to train native English language speakers to Level 3 proficiency in comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing Swahili.
